The Best AirPlay Devices

Apple AirPlay sounds great, but the number of devices that are actually supporting it are limited. AirPlay allows the iTunes fans to stream their music all around the house without needing wires. AirPlay tech is integrated into all sorts of accessories from speaker docks to AV receivers for the home theater.
The idea is that you can start your playlists on your computer and then stream them wherever you want. One of the cooler features of AirPlay is that if you have multiple Airplay compatible devices in your home you can listen to the same music on all of the devices at the same time.
AirPlay will also stream information about the music to your devices as well. You can get the album artwork, name, artists and more.

The Hydra Sports MP3 Player

The Hydra MP3 Player lives up to its name, or does it?  Enfolded in a rubberized casing, the Hydra MP3 player is a rugged and sporty looking player.  But the test results seem to be only slightly better than any other electronic device on the market.

Playing in the rain a bit, maybe even passing the Hydra player over running water won’t hurt it much.  But, submerging it or holding it under a running faucet for a few seconds could kill it.  The makers of this MP3 player ironically states "avoid contact with liquids."  A very safe disclaimer.

CD Player Wannabe

We’re comfortably sure this lame piece of work will play out in the nearest of futures, but we’ll tell you about it anyway.  So, here it goes.

Noting contently that this baby will remain in Korea, this 128mb digital album player is only good for the one album you purchased.  It displays the album on the outside of the player, as if you’ve really purchased the CD.  Of course, you’ll need head phones and batteries to get the party started.  We say just buy the CD and have a field day.

Looking Back on 2006

Looking back on 2006, music artists have offered a myriad of songs fluctuating from tolerable to x-rated.

Justin Timberlake oozes “Sexyback, while Nelly Furtado smooths out “I Wanna Love You”.  The album lyric gushes out a little more than just ‘love.’  Britney Spears is another story… rated XHO (Sexually Hungy Only);

But, fear not.  Parents and children alike are letting it be known that their musical attraction is to milder melodies, like Carrie Underwood’s “Some Hearts, which Billboard measures as the top seller; and Rascal Flatts’ “Me and My Gang.”

OK Go to Perform on New Years Eve

OK Go will be performing in Sin City on New Years Eve at a Fremont Street event.  The Chicago-originated band will broadcast live on CD USA featuring All-American Rejects, Rock Star Supernova, among others.

Accompanying the OK Go to the festivities is rock ‘n’ roll legend Sam Moore.  Front man, Damien Kulash says, "We're going to do a couple of covers with him, one of his songs and then one other, which I think will be a lot of fun.  He is among the people who wrote the history of rock 'n' roll. I feel like we are students of rock 'n' roll, not exactly progenitors," Kulash says. "It really is mind-bending."

The Pick of Destiny

This week’s review is for an album that came out about a month ago, but since they just appeared on SNL I thought it would be appropriate.

Tenacious D’s new album, “The Pick of Destiny” is good. But, they don’t sound like the Tenacious D I remember. It seems that the album is structured as a narrative to the plot of the movie, which doesn’t give the album a true perception of what an album is supposed to be. It lacks its own character without the film.

Incubus’ Light Grenades

This week’s new release review is Incubus’ Light Grenades. Guitarist Mike Einziger described the new album as "a total mess . . . It sounds like 13 different bands playing 13 different songs."

The quintet hasn't abandoned its spiraling, madcap jam-busters, like frenetic first single "Anna Molly," the punchy "Rogues" and the overdriven "A Kiss to Send Us Off," a vague flashback to previous hit "Megalomaniac."
