Get Intimate With Alicia Keys

Billboard reccently got a chance to talk with Alicia Keys in a feature titled "6 Questions With Alicia Keys."

Quote: "In less than five years, Alicia Keys has accomplished more than seasoned performers twice her age, from releasing two multiplatinum albums and winning nine Grammy Awards to consistently selling out concerts. Keys' performance chops are spotlighted on her new CD/DVD, "MTV Unplugged," which J Records released Oct. 11. The project features new single "Unbreakable," which is No. 48 this issue on The Billboard Hot 100, plus collaborations with Common, Mos Def, Damian Marley and Maroon 5's Adam Levine."

Jet Cancels Tour Dates

Well it looks like if you're a Jet fan and you have tickets to the Philadelphia or Toronto concert this weekend then you will be waiting until November to rock. Singer Nic Cester has come down with acute laryngitis and has been ordered by doctors to rest for four or five days. Don't worry though, the tour will resume on Tuesday and Jet will still appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno as scheduled.

"Canceling shows is not something we take lightly at all," the band released in a statement. "We had to make the tough decision this afternoon to cancel shows in both Philadelphia and Toronto-two cities we have played and loved playing in on numerous occasions. We promise to make these shows up as soon as Nic is recovered and we’re back on the East Coast. Once again, our sincerest apologies to all of our fans. When we return, it will of course be with a vengeance."

The Killers Kick Off SNL

Well the epic 32nd season of SNL premiers this Saturday (September 30th) and to kick the season off they will have host Dane Cook and musical guest The Killers. This will be the second time both have appeared on SNL.

The first time The Killers were on they performed their five million-selling debut “Hot Fuss,” which garnered four hit singles and seven Grammy nominations. This time they will be performing from their eagerly awaited second album “Sam’s Town”. Their new single “When You Were Young” is already Top Five at alternative radio and one of the most played videos on MTV.

So even though this season has taken away some familiar faces including Tina Fey, these two guests giving their sophomore effort should start the season with a BANG.

New Releases Week 9/26/06

This is a pretty good week for new music. The top 4 new albums that I think will be the most successful are as follows:
Scissor Sisters - Tah-Dah
Janet Jackson - 20 Y.O.
Jerry Lee Lewis - Last Man Standing
Alan Jackson - Like Red on a Rose

Scissor Sisters - Tah-Dah
Although the Scissor Sister's are more well known internationaly than in the US alone their debut album still found it's way into pop and alternative music lovers alike. On "Ta-Dah," the glammed-up gang returns with its unique blend of pop/rock, disco beats and singer Jake Shears' captivating falsetto. You can practically see Shears strutting his stuff on tracks like "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'," co-written by Elton John.

Janet Jackson - 20 Y.O.
Almost as significantly, the album is roughly 20 minutes shorter than usual, with only a handful of interludes, so there's little meandering, in turn making it easier to become familiar with the curves. What really differentiates the album from its predecessors is that there's almost no trace of tension to be heard. It's all about fooling around and being in love.

Jerry Lee Lewis - Last Man Standing
There's no one that doesn't like Jerry Lee, at least according to the guest list for the Killer's first record in 10 years. Featuring guest turns from Bruce, Neil, Willie Nelson, Buddy Guy, John Fogerty, B.B. King, Clapton, three Stones and about a dozen others, this record may be the most stacked cameo-heavy victory lap ever.

Alan Jackson - Like Red on a Rose
After taking a gospel diversion on last year's "Precious Memories," we might expect Alan Jackson's next effort to return to mainstream country. Instead the veteran hat act recruited Alison Krauss to produce what was supposed to be a bluegrass outing but morphed into a Don Williams-style set of gentle melodies that's one of the best things Jackson's ever recorded.

YouTube Video of The Week

YouTube has revolutionized the way we view entertainment. Before, you would turn on your TV and you would have to watch whatever was on or you didn’t watch anything at all. But with YouTube YOU get to pick the content YOU want to watch. YouTube has also helped up and coming musical artists get their music out there for the world to hear even if they don’t have a multi million dollar contract.

Every week I will be picking a music video from YouTube.com. Some are created just for comic relief while others are serious musicians trying to get some exposure. Some artists also create their own music while others just do covers. This weeks spotlight falls on Leona Daly.

Leona Daly is an artist from Dublin Ireland and has just finished recording her debut album. Leona’s video on YouTube is called “Dear Life”. This video is an original recording of an original song. The video is very simple, just an intimate session with Leona and the camera all taken in 1 shot. So check it out below right now!

World's Smallest MP3 Player

Coming in at only 1.62 × 1.07 × 0.41 inches, including the clip, Apple now holds the record for the smallest MP3 player in the world with its new iPod Shuffle. With a 1GB of internal memory the player will store up to 240 songs, and as its name suggests you can have songs randomly loaded from your iTunes library, and have the player shuffle them during playback.

The new iPod shuffle is expected to be available worldwide in October online through the Apple Store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. iPod shuffle includes earbud headphones and an iPod shuffle Dock.

Justin Timberlake Is Still #1

Justin Timberlake’s competition must’ve been crying him a river when he hit the #1 spot on Billboard 200. But they finally got the message that sexy was back when “FutureSex/LoveSounds” kept the spot for a second time. What’s amazing is that Justin was able to hold on to the number one spot for a second week despite debuts from artists such as Clay Aiken and Fergie.

It sounds like pretty soon though Timberlake will be crying himself a river. While his album sold 903,000 copies in the first two weeks sales have now dropped 68%.
