Cingular to Launch Music Service

Rather than launch an independent music service Cingular has teamed up with experienced music providers Napster, Yahoo and eMusic. Rumor has it that the move by Cingular, jointly owned by AT&T and BellSouth, might set the stage for a battle with Apple Computer's Ipod. The service would work on cellphones that double as music players.

Users will be able to transfer music acquired from subscription services like Napster to Go, Yahoo's Y Music Unlimited or eMusic, which is owned by Dimensional Associates Inc., the Journal reported.
