The Pick of Destiny

This week’s review is for an album that came out about a month ago, but since they just appeared on SNL I thought it would be appropriate.

Tenacious D’s new album, “The Pick of Destiny” is good. But, they don’t sound like the Tenacious D I remember. It seems that the album is structured as a narrative to the plot of the movie, which doesn’t give the album a true perception of what an album is supposed to be. It lacks its own character without the film.

Taylor Hicks Exposes Himself

Taylor Hick’s just-released album is self-entitled, and he’s very proud of it.  "This album, for me, is a representation of who I am, and it's also as many styles as I have in me," he says. "I really was able to use the songs and show examples of each side of my musicality."

Hicks is very content with the outcome of his album and gives credit to his producer, Matt Serletic, for the outcome of his album.  "Matt Serletic really got me as a musician and as an artist," Hicks says.

Incubus’ Light Grenades

This week’s new release review is Incubus’ Light Grenades. Guitarist Mike Einziger described the new album as "a total mess . . . It sounds like 13 different bands playing 13 different songs."

The quintet hasn't abandoned its spiraling, madcap jam-busters, like frenetic first single "Anna Molly," the punchy "Rogues" and the overdriven "A Kiss to Send Us Off," a vague flashback to previous hit "Megalomaniac."

The Great Burrito Extortion Case

This week's new release is Bowling for Soup's "The Great Burrito Extortion Case". This newest release from the band is very similar to their previous work. So if you liked "1985", "Almost" and "Ohio" you're sure to like this album and their newest single, "High School Never Ends".

Diddy's New Press Play

Yes another week has passed here on MusicFanboy and it is time once again to review the new "Album of the Week." This week I have decided to take a look at Diddy's newest venture "Press Play"

Quote: "Given the jumbo scope of his Bad Boy business empire, it's hard to remember that Sean Combs was once just a producer/rapper named Puff something or another. But it's those artistic, pre-entrepreneurial guises that Diddy hopes to re-spotlight on his first solo record in five years."

Rod Remakes "Great Rock Classics"

It's that time once again to announce the new release of the week! This week's album is Rod Stewart's new album titled Still the Same: Great Rock Classics of Our Time, and so far it's reviews aren't looking too good.

Many listeners of this new album, including myself, are very dissatisfied with Rod's new work because it isn't his own. This new album is simply a bunch of remakes that Rod believes are the "Great Rock Classics of Our Time" and I'd disagree with him on that as well.

The Killers' Sam's Town

While last week I posted the top four albums of the week, from here on out every tuesday I will post the review of what I believe will be the most popular new release. To start off my new album of the week I chose The Killers' new album titled Sam's Town.

Quote: "Sometimes more is better—and that's certainly the case with "Sam's Town," a lollapalooza of cinematic soundscapes that dashes any fears, or dare we say expectations, of a sophomore slump."

Weird Al Takes a Swipe at The RIAA

Weird Al Yankovic's new CD "Straight Outta Lynwood" features a song that takes an exaggerated look at the RIAA, Recording Industry Association of America, and their stance on illegal song downloads. Ironically enough the song is titled "Don't Download This Song" and can be downloaded on Al's myspace page.

Personally my favorite part of the song is when Yankovic talks about what downloading songs illegally will lead to, "Cause you start out stealing songs and then you're robbing liquor stores, and sellin' crack and runnin' over school kids with your car."
